A Lifetime on the Trails
Indian Mobile Mission began with one woman, a place far from home, and a calling that unfolded one relationship at a time.
Since 1968, Sylvia Webb has traveled the trails, visited homes, encouraged children, helped families with everyday needs, and shared the hope of Jesus. What began as a mission became a lifetime of friendships.
WHERE IT BEGAN
It Started in 1968
When Sylvia Webb arrived on the reservation in 1968, almost everything around her was unfamiliar.
She had come from New England. The landscape was different. The distances were different. Daily life was different. Sylvia has written openly about those early years and about wondering what God wanted her to do there.
Little by little, she began to know the people around her.
She listened. She learned. She visited.
And she stayed.
Over time, unfamiliar trails became familiar roads. Houses became homes she knew. Children became young adults, parents, and grandparents. What began as ministry became relationship.
WHY “MOBILE”?
We Go to the People.
The word “Mobile” is not just part of the name. It describes the ministry.
Indian Mobile Mission does not wait for people to come to a building. Sylvia and the ministry go to them—traveling across reservations, visiting homes, carrying supplies, listening, praying, encouraging, and helping wherever they can.
Sometimes the truck is filled with school supplies. Sometimes it is clothing, shoes, food, water, hygiene items, or other everyday necessities.
Sometimes the most important thing they carry is time—the time to sit down, hear what is happening in someone’s life, pray together, and come back again.
Every home is different. Every need is different. So the mission keeps moving.

CHILDREN & EDUCATION
Sometimes It Starts With a Pencil.
From the beginning, Sylvia understood how important education could be in a child’s life.
Through the years, Indian Mobile Mission has helped children with pencils, paper, books, backpacks, school supplies, clothing, shoes, and the encouragement to keep learning.
When Sylvia was helping the child standing in front of her, she could not always see where that child’s story would lead.
Then the children grew up.
Sylvia has watched children she knew when they were young become teachers, nurses, school staff, professionals, members of the military, parents, and leaders. Some have gone on to serve the very communities where they grew up.
MORE THAN A DELIVERY
The Relationship Is the Ministry.
A backpack matters. A pair of shoes matters. A box of food matters.
But Indian Mobile Mission has never been only about what is carried in the truck.
It is sitting down with a child and reading together. It is remembering a name. It is knowing a family’s story. It is returning the next year and the year after that.
The help opens a door. The friendship is what lasts.
RELATIONSHIPS ACROSS GENERATIONS
The Children Grew Up.
The Friendships Stayed.
Indian Mobile Mission has never been about arriving, dropping something off, and disappearing.
The years became decades. Toddlers became students. Students became adults. Children Sylvia once encouraged became parents and grandparents.
There have been graduations, new babies, celebrations, illnesses, hardships, and losses. Through all of those seasons, the mission has continued to return.
We know the names. We know the stories. We remember who the children were before they grew up.
FAITH THROUGH RELATIONSHIP
Jesus Has Always Been at the Heart of the Work.
Indian Mobile Mission is a Christian ministry. But Sylvia’s ministry has never depended on having a church building or a pulpit.
Faith is shared through relationships—through prayer, conversations, worship, encouragement, and simply being there when someone needs you.
It may happen while helping a child prepare for school. It may happen during a home visit. It may happen in church. It may happen after years of friendship.
The goal has remained simple: love people well and point them toward the hope found in Jesus.
A NEW GENERATION

As the years passed, Sylvia’s daughter Sylvia became part of the work too.
Together, Sylvia and her daughter Sylvia continue traveling to reservations, visiting families, delivering supplies, encouraging children, praying with people, and maintaining friendships that have been built over many years.
The needs have changed through the decades. The heart of the ministry has not.
Go to the people. Help where you can. Encourage children. Share Jesus. Keep going.
THE MINISTRY TODAY
The Work Continues
Today, Indian Mobile Mission continues the work that began more than five decades ago—going directly to the people, meeting practical needs, encouraging children and families, and sharing the love of Jesus.
